Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip follows up on iToons 855: The Final Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends Strip (more about the shared backgrounds can be found on that strip's explanation page), and as such switches out Jon from the original Garfield strip and replaces him with the All Engines Go redesign of Duck, a character from the Thomas & Friends mythos originating from the The Railway Series books, with the strip itself and the author's notes making jabs at the All Engines Go reboot; the way Duck is depicted in this strip compared to in iToons #855 indicates just how the "severe case of All Engines Go" mentioned in that strip had progressed.
The author writes[edit | edit source]
Thought about taking the infamous January 17, 2013 strip and replacing Jon with the new design for Duck the Great Western Engine (one of my favorite characters from Thomas & Friends) for the upcoming fourth season of the awful reboot Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go to show how much Mattel disrespects the classic characters. The Scottish twin engines, Donald and Douglas, are also going to be ruined in this new season, I believe.
The title is also a direct reference to SRoMG #1494 "Garfield in 2053".
Original strip: 2013-01-17.
