Explanation[edit | edit source]

In this strip, Jon is carrying groceries when he slips on a puddle, sending a bottle of tomato paste and milk crashing to the ground. As Jon lies there, Garfield enters the scene and delivers an unexpectedly dramatic monologue: “I can't believe you committed suicide. I cannot believe you committed suicide. How could you have done this? How could you have committed suicide!?”

This comes from the absurdity of Garfield’s reaction, Jon has merely slipped, yet Garfield treats it as a tragic event with exaggerated seriousness. This dialogue is a direct reference to Fateful Findings, a cult film by Neil Breen known for its bizarre storytelling and infamous delivery of this exact line. The author’s note simply states, “Garfield is here... now,” adding to the surreal tone of the strip

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Garfield is here.... now.

Original strips: 1983-02-20, 1983-02-22, 1983-02-28.
