Explanation[edit | edit source]

In this particular strip, Garfield is watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? while Jon, in an exaggerated display of enthusiasm, cheers wildly in a clown wig, foam finger, and a college flag bearing the show's logo. The humor comes from Jon's uncharacteristic excitement—he's typically not portrayed as a game show fan—and his inability to answer even the first question correctly. The author adds a personal note, mentioning their own casual interest in game shows and humorously commenting on Jon’s oddly droopy posture.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

The funniest thing is, I'd call myself a bit of a game show fan (more of a casual one).

Also, Jon's butt don't look too healthy, it's a bit too droopy.

The comic I used as a base was one of a few (I didn't check the numbers) that has only 2 panels.

[Did you know less than 20 people have become a Millionaire on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire??]

Original strip: 2014-08-02.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Garfield, as a cat of his stature is known, sits on Jon's couch watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?}
G: "Who wants to be a millionaire?"
{Zooming out reveals Jon, being the game show fan he always never was, cheering over the same episode in a clown wig, foam finger, and a small college flag with the logo of the show on it. The episode in question could perhaps exist, but I doubt it does}
G: Jon does, but he can't even answer the first question!
J: A ! A ! A !
TV: And the answer is D: Platypus
