On the last panel the rain is supposed to be a metaphor for Odie's pitiful state of mind after receiving such sad news so unexpectedly, and the bolt is supposed to represent how abruptly Jon told Odie about Lyman's death. You never know when lightning will strike you.

Odie: I'm depressed
{Jon suddenly walks in, surprised}
Jon: A poacher shot Lyman yesternight
