Explanation

This strip takes the 2024-08-11 original Garfield strip, which involves Irma's eggs making use of among the spiciest peppers known to mankind, and reworks the visuals from the third panel onward to resemble that of the 2000-09-17 original Garfield strip, even rewording panel five slightly to reference the earlier strip's fictional spicy pepper; Garfield is deleted from the first two panels to set up the narrative (with the first panel slightly reworded so Irma doesn't note his presence), the final panel of which rearranges many of the other diners, who were behind Garfield in the 2024-08-11 strip, to be between Jon and Garfield (the diner who was only halfway on-panel in that strip was deleted).

There is a visual inaccuracy in the strip proper: Jon's eggs were depicted as charred in panel four (and noted as such in the transcript), but are uncharred in panel five before being charred again in the extra-long final panel.

The author writes:

24 years later, the Garfield strip is a bit more up-to-date on actual existing spicy peppers, and here I am bringing back the made-up one and making a slightly different punchline out of it.

Jon: Sounds good
Irma: Be careful, breakfast is a little spicy
SFX: FOOM {Fire comes in from the right}
{Jon is scorched and annoyed, his eggs have been charred}
Jon: What did you put on those eggs, Irma?
Irma: Peruvian death peppers. Who wants milk?
{Strip pans to reveal several more burnt customers. Garfield sits at the end of the table, raising his hand while holding an empty glass}
