Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip essentially depicts a "Garfield in 2053" Sunday strip; the first two panels of the 2013 original Garfield strip as well as the third panel's dialogue is visually set up into six panels, with the original weekday dialogue put into three panels and the other three panels made into beat panels. To complete the setup, the top row of a 1981 Sunday strip was added to the top; at that point in time, Sunday strips did include title panels but didn't begin the day's story until reaching the second row, instead depicting a main-cast shot in the top right (back when Lyman was still part of the strip's cast; 2568: Garfield In 2053 Jumps The Shark was invoked in the author's notes to justify Lyman's inclusion in a 2053-style setup).
This strip's author, in the same vein as the author of 3108: A Week in a Sunday, wrongly assumed that the style of title panel used was used in 1970s-decade Garfield strips, despite the art style of said title panel clearly not fitting that decade's aesthetic; the first Sunday Garfield strip known to have even had a title panel was 1981-03-29.

I really think the top row used in the '70s and '80s is quite neat. The title panel is eye-catching but not overly complicated, and the picture of the cast nicely saves Jim from having to draw a completely redundant panel.

Okay, the real reason why I used the top row was that I couldn't decide which title panel would fit this strip's banal tone. Also, the cast panel saved me from adding either a beat panel (which would cause two beat panels in a row, and that seemed rather awkward), or a redundant line (I felt like adding something other than beat panels would've ruined the "effortless" vibe).
PS: Lyman's inclusion on the cast panel in 2053 makes sense if you've read SRoMG #2568.
