Salad Days

Made by: Simon Winters

Explanation[edit | edit source]

The only change is in Panel 1. The dialogue was cleverly altered from the original "chicken salad sandwich" to something that ties directly into the title. His pancake slam (a big pancake breakfast) arrived with no syrup and no pancakes — basically just an empty plate or something equally ridiculous. Garfield’s increasingly unimpressed reactions across the three panels sell the joke. He’s silently judging Jon’s terrible luck with meals, while Jon keeps digging himself deeper with more ridiculous complaints. The humor is very dry and classic SRoMG style: a small dialogue tweak + a clever title turns a simple “Jon has bad food” gag into a wordplay strip about the idiom “salad days.”
