Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author of this strip uses GIMP to edit sprites of Garfield and Jon from the Japan-only NES game A Week of Garfield into the background of the Mêlée forest from the game The Secret of Monkey Island. In it, Garfield said "We're lost, aren't we?" in orange texts in 8-bit video game font, while Jon said "I'm going to scream now." in green texts in the same textfont. The dialogues were lifted from the third panel of the 2008-04-03 strip.

This was inspired by/based on author's experiences of playing The Secret of Monkey Island and got lost in the Mêlée forest pretty badly and wandered aimlessly there for a long time before finding a way out.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Based on a true story: when I first played Secret of Monkey Island, I got lost pretty badly in the Mêlée forest and wandered aimlessly for a long time before finding my way out.

This was my first experiment with Gimp. Not half bad, if I say so myself. (Except for the weird little line under Jon's mouth, but I don't care enough to fix it.)

Credits: scummbar.com for the font, SRoMG #21 for Garfield and Jon (edited slightly for Jon to have a correct expression), https://helmet.kafuka.org/backgrounds/scumm/ for background image, Lucasarts for the original background (used only as a vehicle of parody), Garfield Wiki for the strip.

Original strip: 2008-04-03.
