Explanation[edit | edit source]
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
I very, very, very much hate Robert Cormier's writing, with this specific book being my smoking gun for the argument of "Sometimes, the movie adaptation is preferred to the book adaptation." I read this book twice in middle school, and I didn't even finish it the second time; I got so pissed, I tossed it. (It was my own copy I had bought, if anyone's concerned.)
I hate this man, I hate this book, and I'm standing my ground on this.
Bookcase image comes from Garfield's Scary Scavenger Hunt; image of Jon's house comes from Garfield & Friends.

Transcript[edit | edit source]
{We open on Garfield reading a letter}
{Okay, look, I know, I know, please just bear with me, this time's different}
Letter: Dear Garfield, what do you consider to be the most influential piece of literature?
{Garfield drops the letter and begins wandering off}
Garfield: Here, follow me and I'll show you...
{cut to Garfield sitting at a table in front of a bookcase, smiling while holding aloft a book}
Garfield: Behold! "The Chocolate War" by Robert Cormier! What many consider the best young adult novel ever published...
{Garfield places the book down, and looks at it}
Garfield: For my money, I consider it influential in a very specific way...
{cut to outside; the recycling bin has been placed out by the curb}
{cut back inside; Garfield is lying down on the floor, with a big smile}
Garfield: Gives me the excuse to use the recycling bin...
