Another re-imagining of the infamous "National Stupid Day" strip.
One of my personal pet peeves is Americans who don't know the difference between Memorial Day (established to recognise the war dead right after the American Civil War), and Veterans Day (established to recognise surviving veterans after World War I and scheduled on the date of the WWI Armistice). Yes, in several other countries, the holiday is Remembrance Day, but most of the uproar over the Garfield comic was in the U.S., so I re-dedicated the day in honour of spiders that were not squished. Too subtle?
Original strip: 2010-11-11.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
Spider {addressing Garfield holding rolled-up newspaper}: If you squish me, I shall become famous!
Spider: They will hold an annual day of remembrance in my honor, you fat slob!
Spider Teacher to Class: Does anyone here know why we celebrate "National Spiders Who Survived Meeting Garfield Day"?
