Explanation[edit | edit source]
Similar to the Imaginary Garfield series, in which Garfield doesn't exist and his thoughts originate with Jon, this series also removes Lyman's dog, Odie. This particular edit puts Jon from the first panel of the August 23rd comic in the "Ding-dong" panel, puts the first panel of the August 8th comic in the third panel's position, makes Lyman's answer "Yes", and appends Garfield's "sandbox" thought to Jon's speech balloon. This has the effect of making Jon either use the sandbox as Garfield is implied to in canon, or imagine Garfield does so, while in reality, it remains unused.
Lyman, on the other hand, doesn't seem to behave as if Odie exists.

What if Jon didn't have a cat and Lyman didn't have a dog? I felt it would be interesting to briefly explore what that setting might bring. For one, it does apparently give Jon some pretty strange habits...
