The author, in reading strips from Garfield Minus Garfield, sometimes gets an idea for adding something to the strip. In this case, an old sailing ship on what has been interpreted as a sea rather than just a blue ledge. Whether it has turned because the crew is afraid of giants, or just afraid of boring suggestions, is left as an exercise for the reader.
