Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip essentially takes one panel from the original Garfield strip and drops a memetic phase from a fan-edited panel from a Batman comic into it. The phrase in question makes perfect sense with Batman, as his parents' murders are a key part of the backstory of any interpretation of Bruce Wayne; the murders typically take place after the showing of a Zorro film, tying the Batman mythos with one of its inspirations. Garfield, in comparison, is not established to have either parent deceased; his father was a key character in 2024's The Garfield Movie, and while his mother was last seen in person in 1994 with a 2022 picture cameo, no intervening official Garfield material has ever established her as deceased.

Despite a large number of memes exclusive to SRoMG, I don't believe we've yet had a comic that takes an existing meme and Garfield-ises it (Ed: I don't think you've looked hard enough...). I know this particular meme is a little outdated, but hopefully it's still funny enough that this comic still works.

Original meme: My parents are deeeaaad!
