Explanation[edit | edit source]

Another comic in the vein of #87. Here, Jon has poured coffee for a cat who exists only in his mind. (In the original, it could be guessed that Garfield poured it, or that Jon intended it for Lyman.) Jon decides his objection is silly, although whether or not it's because he's realized he's talking to his imagination or he figures "Garfield" is about the size of a standard housecat and thus doesn't need to grow is left as an exercise for the reader.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Original Strip: 1978-06-29.

Jon has a tea party with his imaginary cat, much as young girls stereotypically do. Except this time it's coffee and apparently (by the splashing) real coffee.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: You can't drink coffee, Garfield. You'll stunt your, uh, your...
Jon: One lump or two?
