99: Pimp My Garfield
Pimp My Garfield |

Explanation[edit | edit source]
In the original strip, Jon uses Garfield as a paperweight. In this edit, Jon is making a "Yo dawg" joke by placing Garfield on a newspaper, presumably on top of a Garfield strip.
"Yo dawg" originated as a sort of catch phrase of Alvin Nathaniel Joiner, better known by his stage name Xzibit, when he hosted the MTV show Pimp My Ride (hence this strip title); frequently, at least by reputation, he would have things added to the participants' cars that they didn't ask for and which he didn't ask if they wanted. This gave rise to a meme in which he or someone else would have heard that someone liked something, so they put something on something so they can do two things at once.
This strip uses -- aside from the real spelling of "dog" -- the repetitive form of the meme, in which the liked thing, the thing put, the thing on which the other thing is put, and even the two things someone can do all have the same name.
Garfield, it can be assumed, does not like this meme.
