Explanation[edit | edit source]

Hyperbole and a Half, the source of the first part of the title of this comic, is a blog/journal comic by Allie Brosh. The "alot" is a creature she imagined as a coping mechanism for dealing with people typing "alot" when "a lot" is correct. Thus, when someone says "alot", she intentionally interprets it as though they mean the creature. It was originally featured in the blog entry "The Alot Is Better Than You At Everything", the source of the second part of the strip title.

The author's comment comes from the blog entry "Dogs Don't Understand Basic Concepts Like Moving"; in part of it, her "Simple Dog", an endearing but mentally handicapped dog, throws up during the car portion of a move... and seems to interpret this as a heretofore undiscovered ability to generate infinite food.

In the original strip, Garfield had eaten Jon's chicken, so Jon threw a large clump of mashed potatoes at him, dumped peas on him, stuck sliced radishes where his eyes were, and jammed celery stalks into the top of the lump, where his ears were, leading to something not all that different from his appearance here, but different enough.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

I made food! I'm magical!

Trivia note: I was originally going to send this in without having edited the actual contents of the panel other than removing the thought balloon and the floating peas that were probably supposed to be part of it... but then I decided I wanted to make it look even more like the alot than it already did. So there you go.

Original strip: 1980-01-20.
