Explanation[edit | edit source]

The original strip has no connection to the joke, that of subjecting Garfield to the rules of mathematics. This time, he's divided by 0; since a mathematician can just keep subtracting the divisor forever, the quotient is infinity, thus the infinite series of Garfields implied by the decidedly finite -- by necessity -- sample shown.
