Explanation[edit | edit source]

Déjà vu is something one thinks he might have seen or experienced before, as opposed to being certain of it. The one experiencing it may or may not actually have seen or experienced it before.

The original strip had the third panel as a redrawing of the first (plus Jim's signature). This edit simply has the first two panels five times. This makes the strip 1975 pixels wide, not much under his paint program's limit. While he could have extended the gag by making a second row and possibly beyond, he felt that might hurt the humor through too much repetition.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Simple enough gag, I know. I suppose I could've extended it even more, but 1.) I didn't want to risk an overly long gag and 2.) my paint program only goes up to 2000 pixels.

Original strip: 1999-04-21
