Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original Garfield strip, Garfield had a huge smile. Jon saw Garfield's smile. Jon said it's nice to see Garfield in a good mood for a change.

Finally, in the last panel, Garfield said I SAT ON A MOUSETRAP in enormous, and yet bold letters.

The author thought it would be funnier if Garfield needed help. He didn't think Garfield could hold that smile any longer....

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Jon walks by and notices Garfield smiling}
Jon: Well, look at you!
Jon: That's quite a smile!
Jon: It's nice to see you in a good mood for a change
Garfield: Help me......

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Originally, the end of the strip read "I SAT ON A MOUSETRAP" in big, bold letters. However, I thought it would be funnier if Garfield was simply saying that he needed help.

I don't think he can hold that smile for any longer....

Original strip: 2003-08-17.
