Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip and its corresponding author's notes appears to be a parody of public service announcements taking a jab at the concept of people having opinions. The strip itself has Jon making a jab at the users of the light modes of devices and web sites, implying that those devices' and web sites' dark modes are superior; Garfield turns Jon's thinking around and implies Jon is the one that sucks. The author's notes take a jab at both pineapple and anchoives on pizza, at various fandoms including the unexpected older male fandom of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, genres of music, and people who don't eat meat or even animal-derived products.

This strip is, in fact, an exact rerun of strip #4554 from roughly two months earlier. The only thing different is a single word in the transcript being boldface for this strip where it was non-boldface in #4554. It is presumed that it came about due to what was intended as a revision to the transcript, basically the only difference in presentation between the two strips, resulted in the version with the revised transcript being misfiled as a distinct strip and ended up being run as such.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

This also applies to people who complain about pizza toppings they don't like (eg pineapple, anchovies), furries/bronies/other fandoms, specific music genres and/or vegetarians/vegans. Among other things, probably.

This has been a public service announcement.

Original strip: 2008-12-05.
