Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original strip, someone wrote to Ask a Dog with a question about cats. This is, arguably,[weasel words] a strange question to write to a dog about, and only ends up getting answered in the original strip because Garfield is Odie's translator.

Here, Odie doesn't need Garfield as a translator, and the question is more sensibly addressed to Ask a Cat. Odie informs the sender that he is of the species Canis familiaris (i.e. he is a dog, not a cat) and that the postal address for Ask a Cat has moved. Presumably, mail for Ask a Cat was once sent to the current postal address of Ask a Dog, and the sender had yet to realize this.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Odie is holding a sheet of paper}
Odie: "Dear Ask a Cat, why do cats have nine lives?"
{Odie sets down the paper, glares at the fourth wall}
Odie: As a member of Canis familiaris, I regret to inform you "Ask a Cat" has changed address
