Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original comic, Jon's statement in the first panel spurred Garfield to leave in the second, and come back with a tuba in the third. This strip puts Garfield with a tuba in the first panel and gets rid of the others. The author's note gives the reasoning, doahomework.com offered by the character of Polonius in William Shakespeare's Hamlet.

In this case, it may well work; everything we need to know about the scene is encapsulated in one panel: Jon is bored, and Garfield is about to shake Jon out of his doldrums, not by offering any pleasant pastime, but by launching a surprise assault on his eardrums.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

After seeing the strip for this day, I realised that most of the panels in the three-panel-a-day comic were completely unnecessary to the joke. Seeing how brevity is the soul of wit, I've cut the unnecessary panels out of the strip.

I think the final result is much improved.

Original strip: 2009-08-20.
