Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip is a recreation of the opening scene from the Rocko's Modern Life episode "I Have No Son!" As the author's commentary explains, Rocko and Filburt are huge fans of an in-universe cartoon series titled The Fatheads. The show was created by Rachel Bighead, who happens to be the child of Rocko's neighbors, Ed and Bev Bighead, whom the eponymous Fatheads are based on.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

The dialogue and scenario is from the Rocko's Modern Life (my all-time favourite cartoon) episode, "I Have No Son." In the episode, there is a cartoon called "Meet the Fatheads" that Rocko and Filburt watch, and it was created by Ed and Bev Bighead's daughter, Rachel. [Note: This strip originally ran before the 2019 special, Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling. This section has been updated accordingly.]

Original strips: 1984-01-15, 1993-06-22, 1994-08-29, 2002-01-01, 2005-05-05.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Two chickens are on a picnic blanket eating sandwiches}
Chicken 1: You know, Rob, this is kind of funny.
Chicken 2: What do you mean?
Chicken 1: Well, the two of us on a blanket eating sandwiches.
Chicken 2: What's funny about that?
Chicken 1: 'Cause we're chickens! We can't talk! That's what makes it seem
very humorous, are you with me?
Chicken 2 {now bigger and leaner}: What are you... a Fathead?!?
{A box with two dogs in it falls down on the chickens}
Garfield: Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Boneheads.
White and black dog: It's the Fatheads, you dolt!
{Dog whacks Garfield with sign}

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • As the added editor's note explains, the strip was created and first ran years before the follow-up special, Static Cling, in which Rachel came out as a trans woman; as such, the author's notes consequently deadnamed and misgendered the character. The author's notes have since been changed to reflect this.
