1790: Square Root of Negative Over the Hedge?
Square Root of Negative Over the Hedge? |

Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip takes a Christmas-season-themed Over the Hedge strip, removes that strip's middle panel and the first line of what was originally the third panel, then tacked on a panel from the Garfield strip with reworded dialogue mixing together the Christmas carol lyric and the infamous "pudding pops" running gag. The inspiration from this strip, as stated in the author's notes, was an author of Over the Hedge on his blog; it is unknown whether that particular professional author was inspired by Square Root of Minus Garfield's infamous running gag and/or the original Garfield strip that spawned it.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
The other day, Over the Hedge had a reference to "figgy pudding" and the blog in which the author comments on the strips had the title "Figgy Pudding Pops". So I can't take credit/blame for the mashup, it's OTH's Michael Fry.
Original Over the Hedge strip: 2013-12-11.
Original strip: 2001-11-28.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
Verne: Who is this imposter??
R.J.: Verne, Stunt Christmas Verne... Stunt Christmas Verne, Verne
Stunt Christmas Verne: How do you do? ... I'm a big fan.
Stunt Christmas Verne: (singing) Bring us some figgy pudding! Bring us some figgy pudding...
Hammy: With sprinkles!
Garfield: They haven't started making figgy pudding pops, have they?
Trivia[edit | edit source]
There is an inconsistency between the actual Verne's line between the strip proper and the transcript; the strip proper uses "impostor, the transcript uses "imposter".
