Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip, as its title implies and its author's notes partly state, redraws Garfield into an Arthur cosplay and Nermal into a D.W. cosplay, and also slightly adjusts Garfield's line to account for D.W.'s gender as opposed to Nermal's.
The choice of Nermal in the D.W. cosplay highlights an interesting parallel in casting choices of animated adaptations. Nermal in Garfield and Friends was a male character voiced by a female voice actor; later adaptations would give him a male voice actor. D.W. in the Arthur animated series was a female character voiced by multiple male voice actors (there being multiple voice actors in this situation is due to the fact that said voice actors were young boys, and the role would be recast once the boys aged out of being able to do the role); in only a single segment was she portrayed by a female voice actor, that segment being a portion of the finale that portrayed D.W. as an adult.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
Prolific Garfield theorist manyhills won an Arthur-identifying contest I was running and requested, as his prize, I draw Arthur as Garfield and submit it here. This is the result.
This particular Garfield strip intrigued me because I see so much of D.W. in Nermal here and so much of Arthur in Garfield's frustration with Nermal. I invite you to read Nermal's lines with D.W.'s voice in your head.
I am also parodying Arthur, by Marc Brown.
Original strip: 2004-06-11.
