The author writes:[edit | edit source]
To make up for there not being much of a joke here, I was planning on writing a Garfield-themed parody of Sonnet 130 to go in the annotation. I got as far as
- My mistress' eyes are nothing like lasagne
- Tomato sauce more red than her lips' red
- Her name is Jill, though some folk call her Tanya
when it suddenly and forcefully occurred to me that I needed to immediately stop for my own good and the good of humanity.
Original strip: 2010-10-02.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
Jon: I'm going to write a love letter to Liz.
Jon: And great love letters always compare the loved one to something. What could that be?
Garfield: Well, duh! A summer's day!
