Explanation[edit | edit source]

As implied by the author's notes, this strip is a recreation of what the author believes to be the original idea for the original Garfield strip; this strip is still an invocation of the Death by Adaptation trope in comparison to the finalized version of the original Garfield strip.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

From the placement of the original text, it looks like they replaced "passed" with "moved" pretty late in development. Of course, now it looks like they're happy about the death of someone's beloved pet.

Original strip: 1982-03-09.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: Hey, Garfield, you know the dog next door?
Jon: He passed away yesterday
{They share a smile}
