Explanation[edit | edit source]
As this strip's author's notes explain, this strip's premise has been made lighter and softer by removing any implication that Garfield may have killed the mailman with his actions; the change from killing to tripping may, however, change possible interpretations of the Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking trope.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
A lot of Square Root of Minus Garfield strips take an innocent Garfield strip and change a few details to make the premise much Darker And Edgier (caution: TV Tropes link), often by killing a major character. When I stumbled upon an original Garfield strip that actually mentioned death, I decided to do the opposite.
Original strip: 1984-01-30.
