Explanation[edit | edit source]

The author thought of the idea for these original Garfield strips. The first original Garfield strip was 1981-08-13 where Jon talks to Aunt Gussie on the phone saying that Aunt Gussie would take care of Jon's cat while he's on vacation. The second original Garfield strip was 2006-08-09 where Jon talks to Liz on the phone saying if she would like to go to the movies on Friday night. The third original Garfield strip was 1999-12-28 where Jon talks to Lisa on the phone saying that he has two tickets to the Polka Joe Concert at the Bowl-O-Rama for this New Year's Eve. Then Jon hangs up the phone and realizes that he just learned three new words. The author turned it into a story where Jon talks to Aunt Gussie on the phone saying that Aunt Gussie would take care of Jon's cat while he's on vacation. Jon gets shocked and says "What?" and puts down the phone because he realized he just learned three new words. Garfield says that's it's unsuitable for a comic strip.

The title in the end "turns the air blue" means to speak a stream of bad language; to curse and swear.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Aunt Gussie learned from her past mistakes.

Original strips: 1981-08-13, 2006-08-09, 1999-12-28.
