Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip, contrary to its title, is not based around the typical "Garfield in 2053" premise; this strip makes use of three distinct panels with Jon included in two of them, whereas a typical "Garfield in 2053" makes use of only a singular pose of Garfield. The author's notes proper consist entirely of a numerical string; this string is the binary representation of the number 75, the anniversary of which Garfield would celebrate on 2053-06-19 in the event the strip were to make it to that date. As such, this strip lights only the candles that, from left to right, correspond to a 1 in the binary string, with those corresponding to 0 being unlit.

Interestingly, this wasn't the first strip to surround the as-yet-hypothetical hype surrounding Garfield's 75th anniversary in 2053; 1740: Garfield's 75th Birthday also taps into the event in a typical "Garfield in 2053" fashion. As was the case in #1740, this strip also uses the weekday format that an actual 2053-06-19 strip would correctly utilize should it come to pass barring any changes to the workings of calendar systems between now and then, as 2053-06-19 would be a Thursday in the Gregorian calendar.
