Explanation[edit | edit source]

This edit is a spoof on the joke recycling utilized in the strips that were used for 1166: Jon Forgot Lasagna Thursday Twice.

Here, Jon gives Garfield the April 28, 1983 strip (which this very strip is based on) for New Comic Day. Garfield splats a shrunken version of the July 20th, 1978 Garfield strip into Jon's face. The "All Rights Reserved" Note has been changed To "All Comics Recycled Eventually".

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Garfield: Today is Thursday and that's new comic day
Jon: Here's your "Garfield gets no lasagna and gets mad" strip
{Jon hands Garfield a shrunken version of the original of this strip}
{Garfield splats a shrunken version of the 1978-07-20 strip into Jon's face}
Garfield: Let me jog your memory
{The "all rights reserved" note at the bottom has been changed to "all comics recycled eventually"}

Two things.

Firstly, the way Garfield says it is new comic day seems to state that other days are "reruns" and makes Jon's failure to deliver a good comic all the more awful.

Secondly, it's almost as if Jim actually wanted this to happen, having a recycle of an old strip with the punchline, "let me jog your memory".

Original strip: 1978-07-20, 1983-04-28.
