Explanation[edit | edit source]

I was using the Garfield script generator used in strips #3138 and #3139 (partly for inspiration but mostly for my own amusement) when this happened. I'm not sure I get the joke, but the generator specifically requested I didn't change it, so here we are. The meta-commentary level is getting so high I wouldn't be surprised if it the generator referenced this strip next.
Original strips: 1978-07-12, 2015-10-16.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
{Garfield and Arlene are sitting at the fence. Arlene is inexplicably facing away from Garfield}
Arlene: BWAAHAAHAA! I can't, I just CAN'T get a food!
{The second panel contains only text, reading 'Don't remix this strip! It's perfect the way it is, Mezzacotta!'}
{Garfield goes away, extremely beaten-up, to make some lasagna}
