Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip essentially gives 2276: Garfield Minus Cartoon Physics the "A Death in the Family treatment, portraying #2276 as equivalent to A Death in the Family's "Jason dies" scenario that was ultimately published; this strip takes #2276 and reworks the ending so that Garfield survives being crushed by the refrigerator albeit badly battered, similar to the unused scenario that had been planned out had "Jason lives" won the vote.

After seeing strip #1070 and #2276, I was wondering why Jon did not hear the noise in the original strip. This is the result. Garfield is upset at Jon because of his decision to put the cookies on top of the fridge that almost caused him to get killed.

{Garfield peeks into the kitchen and spots the cookie jar on top of the fridge}
{Garfield throws a grappling hook behind the refrigerator and puts one of his back paws on the fridge, starting to climb it. Suddenly, the fridge starts to lean}
SFX: KREEEEEEEK
{Frightened, Garfield's eyes widen and his ears pull back, just before the fridge falls on top of him with a resounding...}
SFX: THUD
{Smoke rises up from the green refrigerator}
Jon: What the $+#% was that? *gasp* GARFIELD!?
{Jon shouts Garfield's name, but unlike the other times, not out of fury. This time, out of concern and worry. Jon pulls Garfield's flattened body out from under the fridge and is holding it in disbelief}
Jon: GARFIELD! SPEAK TO ME!
Garfield: I'm not speaking to you
