Explanation[edit | edit source]

As implied by this strip's author's notes, this strip is intended to lampoon lazy efforts even moreso than the original Garfield strip. To that effect, the setup from the first panel is cloned into the other two strips (the original Garfield strip had an art shift between each panel, there to imply lazier efforts between each panel) to make it look like very little effort had been put into to differentiate the panels. The transcript continues the lazy-effort theme: the first line doesn't specify Garfield as the speaker, and the third line lacks a colon to separate the speaker from the line proper. Contrary to what the signature looks like, the author did not make it look like Jim was agreeing with him regarding the low-effort product; the signature was, in fact, in the original Garfield strip, wherein Jim was agreeing with Garfield.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

When Garfield switched to computers to make comics, the copy paste got more obvious (truth be told, Garfield always had it, it just wasn't as noticeable as it was all hand drawn). So when I saw this strip, I got an idea to make it TRULY lazy, to hammer home the message.

P.S.: End the strip already, Davis, you can't keep making them forever.*

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Laziness is contagious
Garfield: Right, Jim?
Garfield Jim?...
{All three panels are copy pasted, and poorly edited. The signature reads "Right! Jim Davis 5-5"}
{...Lame, thy name is Garfield}
