Spot the Difference For Real This Time

Made by: Riley

Explanation[edit | edit source]

Instead of the usual gimmick of showing off two Garfield strips utilizing the same basic joke, the author has taken a panel from the 1990-07-01 strip and made nine changes to it, including adding assets from other strips, to create a "spot the difference" game.

The nine differences in the second version of the panel are:

  1. The word "not" is removed from Jon's dialogue balloon, making it seem like he's allowing Garfield to take the kitty treats
  2. A blender is glued to Jon's face
  3. Jon's shirt is purple
  4. There is static on the TV
  5. The light switch is flipped down
  6. Another flower has been added to the flowerpot in the background
  7. Odie's legs are sticking out from under the chair
  8. The fern in the foreground is half-eaten
  9. A mousehole has been added to the hallway

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

The "identical comics" premise has been done to death at this point, so I figured I'd go back to the original "spot the difference" idea.

Original strips: 1985-08-25, 1990-07-01, 2001-05-02, 2008-04-26.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Garfield is sitting on the recliner in front of the TV, with a box of kitty treats in front of him. There are several plants and pieces of furniture around him. Jon is walking out}
Jon: I'm leaving the room now. You are not to take the kitty treats
{The panel is shown twice, with nine differences which I will not be spoiling here}
