Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original, Jon preceded this panel by opining how cute it is when cats bat a ball of yarn around, and followed this panel by rethinking his use of the term "cute".

Here, the described panels and the color have been removed, and the remaining panel's aspect ratio has been changed. A caption was added: "Garf tools." This is all a reference to a strip from The Far Side, captioned "Cow tools". This strip was infamously confusing to many readers, including The Far Side cartoonist Gary Larson's own mother. Reaction to "Cow tools" prompted him to put out a press statement in which he explained himself. This one comic got so many people talking about, and this curious about The Far Side that its readership expanded significantly. Said strip currently has a Wikipedia page and is a TV Tropes trope namer.
