5252: Sunday Every Day: Bernadette (or, Jon Plus Desperation)
Sunday Every Day: Bernadette (or, Jon Plus Desperation) |
Made by: Cesium Lightning |
Explanation[edit | edit source]
The idea behind this edit was to take the original 1998 strip, which had only the suggestions "dinner and a movie", "lunch and a bike ride", and "a cookie and a crossword puzzle", with Garfield quipping "Toaster crumbs and a knock-knock joke?" and expand it to a Sunday-sized strip, complete with a title panel from the 1990 strip, by adding panels with suggestions from the comments. "...Lunch and a bike ride?" was moved into a replica of the first panel, and some reader suggestions filled the second-panel set. The original's final panel was turned into the edit's last two panels, with the first of these two having the original suggestion and quip, but no flying sweat, and the last one getting the sweat and one reader suggestion and quip.
The suggestions are roughly in decreasing order of demanding of one's time and energy, expanding upon the idea that Jon is so desperate to spend any time at all with Bernadette that he's willing to decrease the amount to ridiculous degrees just to get something.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
Some of Jon's lines were inspired by comments on GoComics.
Original strips: 1990-09-30, 1998-02-11.
