Explanation[edit | edit source]
In this strip, Jon comments on putting lasagna in the oven, expecting it to take forty-five minutes. However, he suddenly speaks in slow motion while checking his watch. The joke twist comes when The Flash appears, lamenting that he perceives everything as happening in slow motion. Even Odie’s bark follows this exaggerated time dilation effect. The comic plays on the idea that super speed alters one's perception, making normal events drag out endlessly.
The author explains that he saw the original Garfield strip and immediately thought of swapping Garfield with The Flash to highlight this comedic contrast.
The author writes[edit | edit source]
When I saw the original strip, I couldn't resist replacing Garfield with The Flash.
It must suck having super speed, because you perceive everything to be in slow motion.
Original strip: 2008-11-23.
