Explanation[edit | edit source]

In this strip, Garfield sits alone on a small red chest of drawers in an almost empty room, delivering a simple yet existential line: “Feed me”. The humor (or rather, the melancholy) comes from the stark minimalism—removing Jon, the desk, and the stool leaves Garfield in a strangely isolated state, emphasizing his dependence on others while making the scene feel oddly desolate.

The author describes it as a “rather sad and existential Garfield minus Jon comic,” referencing the well-known Garfield Minus Garfield concept, which removes Garfield entirely to highlight Jon’s loneliness. Here, the approach is reversed—Garfield remains, but the familiar elements around him are stripped away, leaving him in a strangely empty space.
