6052: I Wonder If That Silly Pig Will Remember That He Can Talk

Explanation[edit | edit source]
This strip essentially restores Orson's ability to actually speak as he did in U.S. Acres/Orson's Farm, as opposed to the thought-bubble process given to animals within Garfield proper (including Orson himself in the original Garfield strip).
Interactions between the casts of Garfield and U.S. Acres/Orson's Farm are very rare (even on Garfield and Friends, crossovers are cameos for the most part), rare enough for no concrete rules on how Garfield and U.S. Acres/Orson's Farm characters interact with each other to be in place; as such, it cannot be definitively established whether Jim Davis actually forgot about anything. Interestingly, how communication is portrayed between the animals in this Square Root of Minus Garfield strip is how such communication worked in the Garfield and Friends segment "The Thing in the Box", a U.S. Acres/Orson's Farm segment where Nermal played a notable role; in that segment, the U.S. Acres/Orson's Farm characters moved their lips and actually spoke as normal for their mythos, while the Garfield characters' lips didn't move in keeping with established Garfield mythos norms.
The author writes:[edit | edit source]
Jim Davis apparently forgot that the U.S. Acres barnyard animals had the ability to actually speak when he gave Orson this guest appearance decades later. So I fixed it.
Original U.S. Acres strip: 1988-08-10 (for Orson's mouth).
Original strips: 2001-04-25, 2010-04-07, 2010-04-12.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
{Jon comes upon Garfield eating his food in a messy manner}
Jon: You disgusting pig!
{Garfield stops eating, then turns around to address Orson Pig, who just happened to be sitting behind him with a coffee mug}
Garfield: I wouldn't take that
Orson {speaking aloud}: He was talking to you
