Explanation[edit | edit source]
In the original 1985 strip, the "SSSSSSS" was the beginning of a "SPLUT", finally achieved when Garfield opened the box's door to see what was hissing, unleashing the pie within and being hit in the face with it. Here, the hissing is implied to be from a Creeper, iconic enemy from the video game Minecraft. Creepers, once they notice a player character, start approaching them, hissing, then flashing, signaling that they're about to explode. The explosion here comes from a strip in which Garfield "borrowed" the ballet slippers Jon had intended to give to his niece and did a few moves, causing them to "blow out on a bourrée".

The 1985-02-06 strip took on a whole new meaning after I started playing Minecraft.
Original strips: 1984-08-12, 1985-02-06.
