Guiso de Carne

Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip essentially fixes a flaw in the official Spanish-language translation of the original Garfield strip by turning the text "Guiso de carne" upside down to match the format of the text "beef stew" in the original English-language version of the original strip.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Things get lost in translation. It's just a matter of restoring the punchline of the original English version.

Original strip: 2010-11-27 (and in Spanish).

Transcript[edit | edit source]

Jon: ¡Este menú está en Francés!
Liz: Lo estás sosteniendo al revés.
Jon: ¡Oh, si!
Jon: ¿Aún puedo ordenar {upside down} guiso de carne?
Liz: Si te gusta.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

There is a grammatical error in the first line of the transcript where "Francés" is wrongly capitalized; the author appears to have applied an English grammar rule not applicable in Spanish in that names of other languages (in this case, French) tend to be capitalized in English but not in Spanish.
