Having recently read through the archives and encountered all of the "Garfield [minus-pun] Garfield" strips, it always struck me as odd that few people changed the unwieldy final punchline. Maybe I would have found that strip funnier if I'd ever had a pudding pop growing up?
Once I saw strip #786, I knew I had to combine the two. It... actually came out rather boring to switch out the punchline like that. Garfield leans over, and presumably finds out what day it is by looking at the printed date. I opted to go one step further and glue the blender onto Jon's head, even if it is mostly obscured by the newspaper. I like the idea of Jon going about his daily life with a blender stuck to his head, for no good reason. ...Maybe I should look into that...
Original strips: 2001-11-28, 2008-04-26.
