Explanation[edit | edit source]

The original strip had Jon driving a car with the steering wheel on the left side the wrong way down the street (for American traffic, that is) when he smacked his face into a stop sign that was facing the wrong way (probably for ease of recognition). No. 1416 fixed the former issue, but not the latter.

This edit flips the car horizontally, bringing it in line with the United Kingdom's design specifications, and turns the stop sign so it's facing Jon rather than the viewer. It also adds a curb on the other side, making it a one-way street so Jon can still smack his face into the sign, with the question of whether he's on the correct side of the road rendered moot.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

I'm from the UK, so I naturally choose to present John on the right-hand side of the car. The original strip had two errors; namely that the driver's side of the car is never next to the pavement on a two-way road (unless Jon was driving the wrong way), and that the stop sign would not be facing opposite to the way Jon was driving (unless Jon was driving the wrong way). This wasn't fixed in Left-Hand Traffic (SRoMG #1416) either. So I took the liberty to fix them.

Now I'm expecting someone to do a Japanfield remake, with a triangular stop sign.

Original strip: 1990-12-10.
