Explanation[edit | edit source]

This strip is unusual, in that it is simply the name "Garfield" in the Garfield font in black against a white background.

Kazimir Malevich was a Russian painter and art theoretician who was, among other things, the originator of the avant-garde, Suprematist (not to be confused with the ideology of supremacism) movement.

The original quote, which the author paraphrases, is "Instead of drawing the huts of nature’s nooks, better to write ‘Village’ and it will appear to each with finer details and the sweep of an entire village." (Changed words are in bold.)

The title references Nermal, but only to make a punny portmanteau with the name of the artist under consideration.

There is no original strip.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Instead of drawing the comic adventures of an orange cat, better to write 'Garfield' and it will appear to each with finer details and the sweep of an entire anthology.

- Kazimir Malevich, Alogmisme 29. Village. I paraphrase, slightly.
