Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original strip, Garfield and Liz's fear was Jon's gaudy new sweater sporting a bunch of different clashing patterns.

Here, it's more subdued, but made up of pixels that are shades of blue and yellowish-gray; Jon scares them by asking what color it is. The question, of course, is faulty in that it asks for a single color when there's clearly more than one. The "color" is based on a dress that went viral in February 2015 - a girl posted a picture of it on Tumblr asking whether it was blue and black or white and gold (thanks to the lighting creating an odd optical illusion of sorts), and the question became a heated matter of debate. (For the record, it's official blue and black.)

The strip shares its name (give or take "the") with a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic song, featured in the episode "Suited For Success".

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

This, of course, is based on this baffling dress.

I'm curious to know what colour our readers see this dress as being.

Original strip: 2011-12-26.
