Explanation[edit | edit source]

The original comic started with a panel in which Jon called Garfield. This panel was removed, and the last panel replicated and edited. A border was added to the new first panel and removed from the new second panel.

In the third panel:

  • A pie was edited in from another strip. This pie had a red filling, edited here to be roughly the color of apple pie filling.
  • The eyes from the new first panel were replicated and flipped for the third, and the pupils moved.
  • A "don't" was added to Garfield's thought balloon, with dialogue moved to accommodate.

Thus we see Garfield getting what he prefers, just not in the way he prefers it. Whether or not the Garfield & Friends theme ("surprises and pies of all sizes", anyone?) provided inspiration is currently unclear, but the author has (at least after the fact) made the connection.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Original strips: 2014-05-01 (base), 1993-01-18 (pie), 2014-12-24 (don't).
