Explanation[edit | edit source]

In the original, the health department had forbidden Irma from serving anything but water, as long as she doesn't use one of her glasses. Undaunted, she serves water in her hands. Garfield doesn't think there's a straw long enough to make this a good idea.

Imagine, then, the health department's reaction to this edit, in which Irma puts her blood, sweat, and tears into her work. Normally a metaphor for determination, Jon is disturbed -- probably retroactively over many meals -- to find that Irma means it quite literally. But at least she can still put her own blood into a glass.

The title may be a pun on the title Irma la Douce (Irma the Sweet), but not otherwise connected. One hopes.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

I actually have a list of a dozen or so SRoMG ideas that I've been putting off for a very long time. This one is not from that list. Rather, it was spontaneous inspiration that I got from reading today's (Mar 27, 2015) strip on Garfield.com.

Original strip: 2015-03-27.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

{Irma presumably walks into the kitchen.}
Irma: Unfortunately, I'm all out of sweat and tears
{Irma comes back, her hands covered in what seems to be blood. Jon is shocked.}
Irma: Would you like a glass for this, hon?
Garfield: Irma needs a new therapist
