Explanation[edit | edit source]

On the Irregular Webcomic!/Square Root of Minus Garfield web forums, David Morgan-Mar made the following announcement regarding the infamous "pudding pop" strips that appeared on the eponymous website, referring to those comics which were a variation of the "something that sounds like Minus" gag that many authors submitted en masse:

"Strips which are variants of the infamous "pudding pops" strip may be submitted, but are placed in a special ultra-low-priority queue. There are nearly 100 unpublished strips in this queue, dating back to 2010. They will be trickled out extremely slowly, if at all. Basically, if you submit a strip that is a variant of this, odds are it will never get published. Use your creative energy on some other strip idea."

In this comic, Garfield is aware (breaking the fourth wall as such) that Jon is about to embark on yet another "pudding pops" strip by starting to say the opening lines that appear in the first panel of virtually every "pudding pops" strip: "The world is constantly changing." Garfield, wanting to prevent this strip from ending up in the so-called ultra-low-priority queue, attempts to stop Jon before he can finish his sentence.

The author writes:[edit | edit source]

Garfield attempts to be genre savvy enough to prevent another "pudding pop" strip from being created. Nonetheless, I wager it'll be a cold day in hell before this strip sees the light of day. (Ed: It's certainly a cold day in my apartment.)

Original strip: 2001-11-28.
