Explanation[edit | edit source]

This is a simple edit -- the author has simply switched the names on Odie and Gafield's food bowls, thus creating an implication that Garfield has changed his eating habits in reference to #2155, which, interestingly, appeared a year before.

The title, however, needs a bit of explaining, not really having anything to do with the strip itself. It is actually a reference to the arcade game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time; specifically, one of its levels, "Bury My Shell at Wounded Knee." This, in turn, is a reference to the non-fiction book Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, which gets its title from a poem by writer Stephen Vincent Benét titled "American Names".

The author writes[edit | edit source]

Consider this a sequel to #2155.

Original strip: 1994-02-28.
